Crisis in Darfur, the Olympics, and the Street

Political motication has been at the root of street culture always. All acts of counter-movement are political in nature, from teenage rebellion (in some instances), to wearing drawing on your sneakers, to putting up street posters about the state of the world. The passing of the torch all over the world has been met with opposition by demonstrators who have brought attention to the Chinese policies abroad, but we don not need to look any further than our own countries to see that historically a country that is "rising up" has done so by creating conflict in the world. I have lived all my life with conflict in my consciousness, although I have never been in combat, news reports have consistently delivered to me since I was four and I was given my first ear-piece radio, alarming notifications of violence around the world were as familiar to me as my favorite cartoon jingles... let's make some work now on this theme in conjunction with miafarrow.org

Love, Djego
